Beginners guide to roleplaying/creating a catThis is a featured page

I'm sure you're wondering, " ZOMG!!! How on earth does role play work??!!" Well, once you get the hang of it, it'll be quite simple.

~*Learning to Role play*~
Role play is when someone assumes the role of any given character or person and writes a story, only you interact with other people, making it much more interesting! Why don't we look at it as the 'easy' way to write a book xD
Obviously, people who love to write will probably love role playing as well because it gives you the opportunity to write your character's view on a story, or "Plot" but many times, role play plots almost never end up the way you imagined it to be. Role playing on WarriorcatzRule is made quite easy, considering all you need to do is make a cat, then pop over to the Clan that the plot is featured in, post a reply to the thread already started and Ta da! You've just added your character's view on a particular scenario.

I'm still not good at this! I don't feel welcomed in the plots!
Calm down! You don't get good at Role play overnight! But, once you do join, don't think you're going to get away with creating a character, then leave for months and come back to see how your character's doing. No, you created a cat, you joined a community, my friend. Now, this sounds stuffy, but it's not. Trust me! If you stick it out for a week or so, usually even less, you'll find yourself a better roleplayer, plus, you'll become part of us, considered somebody, not JUST a registered user. When you say you don't feel welcome in plots, that means you must have just joined and are still new. It's NOT difficult to get a plot going, or to add your character slowly to the mix of things.
You could do something as simple as, ' Fawnheart(You) walked into the clearing where Dawnfire and Duskheart were speaking together happily. Fawnheart walked up to them and mewed, "Hi, how's the prey running?" ' See? You've just added yourself to the plot because now, the people who play Dawnfire and Duskheart will likely answer, "Prey is running well in Water/Rock/Tree/LightingClan." or, for for a doom twist, they might say, "Prey is not running well. Half my Clan is starving or dead because of the famine."
Okay, now you know how to get yourself into a plot, how about making them interesting? You have no idea how much one person can affect the whole of a plot! It's probably the best part of plots; they're not planned out, and sometimes when they are, things hardly ever go in the direction you originally aimed for. Here's some examples of a dull post: 'Fawnheart walked to the fresh-kill pile and ate a mouse. Then she walked back to the other cats who were going on patrol. "can i come?" she asked. "no." they answered. *pouts, walks back to her den. sleeps* *wakes up later* and walked outside to Dawnfire.' Okay, I'm sure the dumbest person could spot the mistakes there! First, the author of this post didn't do any elaborating at all! It could have used more details. Even though it was simple, it could have sounded better. Then, there's the poor capitalization and punctuation. Don't do it unless talking Out of Character! And even then, it sounds dumb. Here's another thing: Did you notice the time lapse when Fawnheart went to her den? Oh and, don' ever, EVER use * astaric tag in roleplay! It's fine when Out of Character, *winks* but when in character, it sounds horrible! Just a lazy shortcut because you don't want to say, "Fawnheart pouted..." Plus, we don't know what happened in between her going to the den to sleep, then walking to Dawnfire. For crying out loud, what if Fawnheart had had a dream saying the Clan must flee the forest or die!? Here's the same post, but it was fixed: 'Fawnheart padded over to the large fresh-kill pile and chose a plump mouse for her to eat. Then, carrying it over to a patch of sunlight, she sat down and began devouring the mouse. It was gone quickly, so she bounded over to the cats that was obviously a patrol. "Can i come?" she mewed eagerly. Frostface gazed at her sympathetically. "Sorry, but you can't. Leafstar wants you for something. I don't know what," With that, Frostface and the others left, leaving Fawnheart standing there, very much annoyed. Walking over to Leafstar's den, Fawnheart mewed softly, "Yes, Leafstar?" Leafstar turned to face her with a look of thunder on her face. "Fawnheart, you must travel on a journey no other cat has done before. You must go to the mountains and listen to the whispering leaves." Fawnheart stood, baffled. "You leave tomorrow," Leafstar said quietly. "Get some sleep."' Wasn't that much better? First, proper grammar was shown, then, instead of 'Fawnheart walked here, there, everywhere,' it became, 'Fawnheart padded, Fawnheart bounded, then! Fawnheart walked' Next, the whole ordeal with the patrol request was denied not just with a "No," but with an explanation. Then, Leafstar telling Fawnheart that she had to go on a journey is an example of how the person who plays Leafstar twisted things up a bit.
Thanks for the help, but my post still looks crazy short! Can you help me out there?
To make your post longer, try doing some of the things I did in the corrected post about Fawnheart. Blab and blab about how your character's feeling. For example, don't do this: 'Fawnheart was sad because she had lost her mate,' Nooooo, rather, do this: 'Fawnheart, her heart nearly breaking with grief, stood in the clearing, her head down, and sadness and pain washing over her like waves because her mate was dead and she'd never see him again.' You can also describe the scenery. Elaborate on how the sun makes little patches of dancing light in Fawnheart's den, or how the leaves fell from the trees like graceful raindrops. It adds personality to your posts, and is always a good thing. Now, you know what I'm going to say lastly: Detail and detail and.,..... more detail! As in creating a cat, it's impossible to stress how important it is! You saw how short the first post about Fawnheart and Leafstar was, compared to the second one! Describe ear flicks, tail lashes, angry eyes, joyful purrs, everything counts in Roleplay!!

~*Creating a cat character*~
Creating a cat to role play with is easy also. Plus, it's half the fun, choosing what your cat looks like, it's personality, it's history.. All like a mini plot in itself! Here is a small example of what your description should look like:
Name: Yes, the important part of character. You simply can't have a nameless cat running about through plots (Duh!) So, consider carefully what your cat's name will be because once you choose, you can't change it. Be sure to come up with something unique, not just Fireheart or Leafstar. (AKA, No copying names from the books!!) A good name would be something like Owlheart, or Dawnfire. Why are they unique? Well, for instance, we could say my cat was called Dawnfire. Maybe it would be because she is most active and alive at dawn. get the picture? Oh, yes! A very important point: Never use the same name as another cat. It creates craziness in the plots, and in everyday activities, like patrolling borders.
Description: Now you can decide what your cat's fur will look like. Again, you want something unique. Not, "Brown tabby tom" but more like, "Pale brown tom with darker brown stripes woven throughout his pelt" You want to make sure your cat has a different pelt, but not anything outrageous, like bright pink or lemon yellow.
Personality: So what is your cat's personality? Kind? Sweet? Fiesty? Angry? Quiet? You get to choose that too! (Hey, doesn't it rock being able to choose so many things?) For a good personality, you don't want, "Kind, quiet she-cat with a bit of a temper." Nah!! too plain! A much nicer one would be, "A sometimes quiet she-cat, she is kind and performs good deeds, but when provoked her temper flares." Now, even that is sorta simple. You have the power to elaborate as much as you wish!
History: Every good cat character needs a history right? Now, don't get me wrong, it is sorta optional. If you don't feel like it, you don't need to add one. But it would be great if you did! Yet another bad example is this: "Fernsong had had a horrible life. Her parents were both evil traitors and had tried to kill their daughter many times. Finally, she'd had enough. She'd killed her parents in their sleep, and lied to her brother to make it seem like they'd killed themselves. The heartbreak was too much for her brother and the next day, he too killed himself." See? Much too much death/sadness in that story. How about this? "Fernsong had never liked her life. First, her parents didn't like her and showed it every way possible. They favored her brother, but thought it didn't show. Finally, at a gathering, Fernsong's life started to look up. She met a handsome gray tom and fell in love. They were meeting together until their Clans found out and made them stop." Much better. Bit of a different twist, but it was less gory, with death and suicide.
Age: Easy enough. The most fun ages are kits and elders. Warriors too, if you give them a very good bio. A new rule has been added stating that your cat has to age, whether you start the game at WCR as a kit, or a warrior. If you join as a warrior though, since you age, that cat has less time to live, obviously.

~*Role play Terms*~
No, don't worry, my little friends, not role play terms and conditions, but vocabulary xD
RP: Role Play
RPG: Role Play Game
OOC: Out of Character. Used when you want to discuss some important even quickly, but not be discussing it through your character's eyes.
BIC: Back in Character. Used when you're done chit-chatting and ready to Role play again.
Illiterate: The lowest level of a role player. They usually have perfect characters, use chatspeak and have one-line posts.
Literate: The highest rank of role players. They usually have great spelling and grammar with long and descriptive character profiles that have detailed and unique histories etc.
Mary/ Gary Sue: A perfect character that has no flaws. Perfect characters are generally looked upon as bad characters because mistakes and flaws make a character (and role play!) fun.
Powerplaying: Nasty stuff. Occurs when a person, controls someone else's character without permission.
Godmodeing: Giving your character special powers, like flying and shooting lasers out of is eyes. NOTE: At WarriorcatzRule, we have adopted "Vampire cats", cats that yes, do drink blood, but were all given powers, but to the less extreme of flying and crud. An example would be, 'This vampire cat can read minds,' Not too fancy.

ok so here is my info:

Name: Night(kit)(paw)(Storm)
Description: Sleek Black she-cat with tabby white stripes and hazel-golden eyes. She is quite a bit of a tom boy and is very strong and quick. She hates it when some cats go easy on her during training just because she is a girl. She also has quite a reputation for getting into all kinds of trouble and mischif. She is pretty shy at first, but once she learns about others she is pretty funny and outgoing. She always wears this twoleg cross necklace given to her by her mother. Her mother was a run away kittypet and had her after running away. Her mother was killed by a vicious wolf pack. And I guess she is 2 moons old. (Played by: Ravenpaw2020)

I just need to know were to post it :3
